The Panorama is the first new Carnival ship based on the West Coast in 20 years. When the Carnival Panorama last sailed from Long Beach in March of 2020 it kept its passengers on board the ship when it returned to Long Beach after a week-long voyage to Puerto Vallarta Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas because a single guest was transported off the ship to be tested for coronavirus. This year the cruises where the new facial recognition system will be available from Long Beach will be onboard Carnival Miracle which just restarted sailings from the port on September 27.

Carnival Cruise Line officials said the Panorama is their first brand new ship to take off from the Long Beach Port in 20 years. Currently under construction the Carnival Panorama is the third Vista-class ship from the cruise line.
